Can I put DD-WRT on my wireless range extender?

My extender is a netgear ex6200, im just wondering if DD-WRT will still function properly not having it on the main wireless router. someone else owns the main wireless router and I don't want to start loading custom firmware onto it just in case I break it. I'm interested in remote access of my computer hard drive or a usb drive plugged into the router
