Recover data from wrong size sd card - using "read" operation

This is an advanced question about data recovery (I'm very knowledgeable in data recovery) so please no answers like using "EaseUS Data Recovery" or any recoveryimagingpartition software or linux readers or boot disks - I know them all and this won't solve it. Also, chkdsk doesn't work on RAW data.

Since any "read" operation on the card will lessen the chance of recovery, and the fact that I do not have hardware and logic analyzers to read off a raw soldered data chip, I'm trying to brain storm last options for advanced methods before I send off the SD card elsewhere. Here's my question:

SD card gave error in camera and needs to be restored. Computer loads card with letter but is shown as RAW. It's a 32GB card but shows as 32MB so "Zero Assumption", "Find and Mount", and any other RAW recovery software will only scan the 32MB. In the past I've successfully restored RAW cards that showed "0MB" but since it's showing 32MB - it throws off the software I guess.

My questions are about USING a "read" operation as a last resort:

  1. Since almost all basic recovery software do a VERY good job at restoring data off a formatted card, why is it so frowned upon as a last option, to format a card and then restore it when nothing else works?
  2. What about deleting the 32MB RAW partition via DISKPART... will this put the disk back to a RAW "0MB" (or maybe even 32GB!) that can then be recovered with RAW recovery software?
