My router, a Netgear DGND3300 from Costco years ago, won't issue valid IP addresses when being used as a WAP in my home network. Devices used are running either iOS or OS X.
The network consists of a cable modem/router combo, and 2 other WAPs connected in different areas of the house. One of the WAPs works perfectly fine, but the other (the DGND3300 referred to here) simply will not hand out an IP properly if configured as an AP. Any devices (iOS and OS X both) that connect to it will only receive a self-assigned IP like 169.254.xxx.xxx and I have no idea why.
AP mode is enabled, DHCP is disabled, and as far as I can tell everything should work fine. Any device can connect perfectly fine to the main modem/router and also the other WAP, but if connected to the DGND3300, devices will only get a self signed IP. If the AP is reset to factory defaults however, DHCP will hand out a valid IP (192.168.0.x) without any problem.
I've rebooted the NG WAP numerous times, as well as the main gateway, but it makes no difference. I have also swapped cables and flashed the firmware as an extra measure.
Anyone have any ideas what's going on with this router and why it won't work as an AP?
