how to eliminate whirring noise in linux yocto

I am working with intel edison board which has linux yocto . I have this issue of whirring noise when I try to record voice with a microphone . My microphone works fine with windows.Tried to search for mic settings in alsamixer but could not find.Any help would be much appreciated.
