I have been working on a process to create a bootable image file that can be used as a installed disk drive for qemu-kvm, so that others can run qemu with my image file without worrying about the installation of a customized system themselves, it just boot and run.

But after I create the image file and managed to populate all files needed into the image file, I can't find a way to install grub because I need to do all the process as a regular user while not root.

I've seen solutions to loop mount the image file for installation of grub. But is there any way to do this without root/sudo?

I mean, after all it's an image file just like any other regular file, and install grub to that file, from my understanding, is just write the stage files into specific location of another bigger file.

So any ideas how that can be done? Thanks
