Comment on "Why does text look so Horrible on my HD monitor?" stream

I don't have the chops to comment on SuperUser so I hope you will add my comment to the Question stream. I just bought a Samsung LED TV model 520 from Costco to use as a monitor. As mentioned in this stream the text looks ragged at best. I did the rename thing and it worked great for this Samsung model. I don't get it. If I rename a .doc file it does not change the contents of the file but if I change the name of the HDMI input into my monitor/TV it makes major changes to the display properties. Oh Well......
