iMovie is missing options found in the guides

I'm using iMovie for the first time. I wanted to lengthen the transition between clips. The program allows me to double clip the transition and change the length but it discards it when I close the dialog.

I researched this and it seems I'm supposed to tu off Automatic Transitions. But the instructions to do this don't match my program. I have 10.1.2 which is the latest version.

I'm supposed to be able to tu this off by clicking the settings button to the upper right of the timeline. But there is no "Automatic Transitions" option there. Or any where else.
