Windows 10 keeps detecting my exteal device as a keyboard

Here is the situation :

(I'm on Windows 10) I need to use a barcode scanner (Riotec FS5027L model) for a software I'm currently working on. They gave me a programming quick guide that simply said i needed to install the PL-2303 USB serial Driver. So I installed it, and plugged the barcode scanner.

Windows quickly detected something and installed it. I then wanted to run the checkChipVersion.exe given with the driver installer to see which chip is used by the barcode scanner, and for that i needed the COM port number it was using.

So I simply went to check in the Device Manager, but there wasn't anything in the ports(COM) section. I checked in the Devices and Printers panel, and saw that my scanner was detected as a keyboard and USB input device. Windows simply used the standard keyboard driver, and not the PL-2303 one. Instead of being called FS5027L scanner, it is named "NLS IOTC PRDs HID KBW", which retus another image sensor on google.

I tried to manually update the driver by selecting the folder in which the PL-2303 was installed, but Windows doesn't search for it, it just says that the driver (the standard keyboard one) is up to date.

I then checked in command prompt with driverquery, but the PL-2303 driver (named "ser2pl.inf") is nowhere to be found.

I tried to uninstall the device, the drivers, to stop the automatic device installation and to edit the registry key to stop automatic driver installation , but nothing works. Everytime I plug the scanner in, Windows 10 detects it as a keyboard and intall the standard driver.

The PL-2303 Driver manual states that some versions of the Prolific chip aren't supported on Windows 10, but it should still be visible in the Device manager as a COM port device with a yellow waing (EOL).

In the events property of the device, it retains that it was plugged before, even if I unistall it, so Windows might be remembering it and installs the driver by default.

So, here are my questions :

• How can I stop Windows from installing drivers ?
• How can I tell Windows to forget my scanner as a keyboard ?
• How can I make Windows detect my driver when the installer or installing the .inf file don't ?
