excel specific cell linked to word. excel hangs

I have named over 200 specific cells in excel and have pasted them as link on word document for easy updation of the word file everytime the excel is updated. However, both word and excel often get hang or stop working if those two files are open together. The size of excel and word files are 800 and 1000 kb

Please advice how to avoid the issue of excel/ word hang
