Directly coect phone land line to laptop to act as an ADSL modem

I have a laptop which has an rj11 port (LSI HDA Modem). Is it possible that I directly coect the phone line (which has an adsl subscription on it) to the laptop so that laptop can act as an adsl router? (or is there any software out there that can be installed to do the job)

note: the actual adsl router uses PPPoE coection to coect to the ISP
