Convert volume paths to MS-DOS drive names

I've registered for a callback which retus path to a file in this format:

deviceharddiskvolume2windowssystem32...

How can I convert it to a more readable and informative format like:

c:windowssystem32...

There are ways to run commands in cmd to get this information, but I'm interested in knowing how to get the path in my callback function itself.
