Windows Media Player 12 resetting all archive bits in music library to +a

Whenever I open WMP, it tus on the archive bit on every single file in my music library, including non-music files. This is aoying, as I have a batch file that runs and copies all changed files to my exteal drive when I shut down my computer. I do this so that I have copies of changed files in between my weekly full backups. If I've run WMP that day, then my batch file tries to copy my entire music library of almost 23,400 items.

All the checkmarks in Options > Library are unchecked, yet WMP insists on updating everything whenever I start it. I have Googled the title of this post and didn't really find anything useful. (Actually, Google seems to be less and less useful every day, finding items that seem completely unrelated to my search.)

If anyone knows of any solutions or workarounds short of dumping Windows altogether, I'd be interested.
