This is a homework clarification question. I am working on a series of papers for an operating systems class right now and was asked to write a paper about how Linux and Windows differ on the topic of IO. I have been using the windows inteals books as reference for windows. Our class is primarily focusing on Linux other then these papers.

Now that some background is out of the way here is the actual question. As I am currently understanding the Windows IO manager is similar in function to the Linux virtual filesystem. Is my current understanding correct? I am not asking for anyone to write this paper for me just simply to let me know if I am heading in the right direction.
