Wifi hardware missing

Here I have a Sony VPCS12C5E. There should be a WiFi module but I can't use it. The laptop is ruing Windows 7 and shows no sign of the existence of wifi, it does not even appear in the device manager panel. I downloaded drivers from Sony and installed them, for no improvement. I just launched a live ubuntu and there is no indication of a wifi chip whatsoever. Here is the syslog and here is the hardware list. I am wondering what I can do to get it back and how it is even possible it disappeared.
