On Windows 7 I have pairs of .jar and .dat files from an Apple computer (export result files from another program), e.g. foo.jar foo.dat. I can extract the files by java -jar foo.jar. But this opens a dialog and prompts for a password. I'm trying to execute the command w/o a dialog, so I want to specify a password on the command line, e.g. java -jar --password mypwd. This command doesn't generate an error, but the password argument value gets ignored and a dialog opens with a blank password edit box. I've also tried -p, --extract --password, etc., without errors but no success. I always get the dialog.

As an additional caveat the password often has non-alphabetic characters (e.g. "a.b", w/o the quotes). Do I need to specify quotes or use some sort of delimiter in this case?

I'm using a java runtime environment version:

    > java -version
    java version "1.8.0_73"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_73-b02)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 25.73-b02, mixed mode)
