Word does not let me edit images using Photoshop (anymore)

Lately, whenever I try to edit an image using Image Object > Edit the following message appears:

The program used to create this object is Photoshop. The program is either not installed on your computer or it is not responding. To edit this object, install Photoshop or ensure that any dialog boxes in Photoshop are closed.

This is strange because for some images I can still do that. I will mention that every image in my document is a JPG file edited using Photoshop. Also I have all the dialog boxes closed in PS. I tried re-opening both Word and Photoshop but the issue is still the same.
