I am ruing small database website on CherryPy (legacy, not mine codebase) for our lab at The University. We had production host and CherryPy instance (database.uni.edu, mapped to static IP xxx.xxx.xxx.24) for some time.
I wanted to setup a development environment to make changes in codebase safely. So I registered (on the same machine but different physical interface) second host, called database-dev.uni.edu on IP xxx.xxx.xxx.64
All was well until I got message from uni's IT/network people:
Network access for AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:71 (database.uni.edu) has been disabled at 04/23/16 14:52:16:
Reason: Host using incorrect IP address
MAC AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:71 IP XXX.XXX.XXX.64 found in XYZ cache
Switch: xxx.uni.edu
Port: xxx
But the very same people gave me hosts:
Hostname: database.uni.edu
IP address: xxx.xxx.xxx.24
Etheet Address: AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:71
-
Hostname: database-dev.uni.edu
IP address: xxx.xxx.xxx.64
Etheet Address: AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:70
And interfaces are not manually set, there is DHCP client on both.
Is there a way to debug this? Is it possible that two instances of CherryPy try to hijack each others interfaces for some reason? At what point confusion arises?
This is my info:

That is how netstat looks like:
