My recently built DIY desktop is amazingly slow when coecting to school wireless:

  • If I try to open a page for the first time, there is a 90% chance Chrome/IE would give me the error "coection timed out". However, if I switch to another tab and come back to reload it, I could coect to it, although being super slow (20s).
  • Chrome has approximately 50-60 coections
  • This problem can be momentarily solved for about 5 min if I reset my adapter.
  • Downloading any file is absolutely fine. It's just that I can't load webpages.
  • The websites that caot be loaded usually pings fine (20-30ms). However, there are also cases where ping also times out.

Config:

  • Win 7 Ultimate (i7/16GB/SSD+HDD/R9-290X setup)
  • No apps ruing. Tued off torrenting/VNC server/DNS filter.
  • ~40Mbps download and ~10Mbps upload inteet by Ookla speedtest.

What I tried:

  • All the standard stuff: restart/reset adapter/flush ipconfig/dns settings.
  • Checked DNS using DNSBench. The school DNS servers are working properly. Tried changing DNS to google ones but it was much slower.
  • Somebody suggested it could be a hardware memory problem. Checked memory through Memtest and all tests passed.
  • Read similar posts on this and nothing currently works.
  • Host file is not heavy but I tried resetting it and it still doesn't help.
  • Safe mode makes no difference. Nor does changing browsers.

What I'm asking:

  • Is there anything that I should try before consulting a computer hardware expert? People from my school's computing office said it is "my device problem".
  • Is there a fix for this?

Thanks a lot!
