How do I make the Linux Mint Cinnamon desktop more rigid?

I am running Linux Mint Cinnamon, and my desktop is currently very loose and hard to manage. Windows, however, has a desktop with a very rigid structure, with the icons in preset imaginary "boxes" on the desktop. The text on the also never overlap in Windows, which in Mint is annoyingly prone to. Is there a tool to manage my desktop in the way that Windows does?
