Switch caused problems to the network

I used the TP-LINK 5-Port 10/100/1000Mbps Desktop Switch to coect some devices in my network. After that, many computers had coectivity problems and in general the network was acting weird! After I unplugged the switch all come back to normal. Does the switch need configuration before, or it is malfunctioning and I have to retued it back?
