I hope someone involved in some sort of research related to optical discs will end up answering this question. I noticed that CD's do not have a very long lifespan(5-10 years) with Blu Rays possibly lasting somewhat longer(15-25 years). So I had the idea of wrapping the disc cases in aluminium foil so data can last longer. Has any of the big producers ever made some research on this subject? What if cases would come from now on with some metal foil on them the same way that cigar or some food packs come? It should shield against some form of EM radiations and temperature variations. How much longer might discs last?, percentage wise?
