I made a simple mistake.

  • Had a folder called Program Files (x86) on my second drive.
  • Had my Onedrive folder in it.
  • I made a wrong click, and dropped my Program Files (x86) folder in my other folder.

I thought the move operation will cause my Onedrive to say "Folder gone", and it will just pause syncing. I will move things back and all is well. I thought.

However. Onedrive picked up the new folder immediately.
This caused my OneDrive to have a "too long filename" and it stopped syncing.

And this is where it went haywire.
This is how I tried to tame the demon.

  • Deleted the file locally, that was too long. No effect.
  • Logged in to my Onedrive online interface, removed the file there as well. No effect.
  • Tried the Troubleshooter, nothing.
  • Tried the Skydrive /reset command. No effect.
  • Tried the C:UsersUSERAppDataLocalMicrosoftOneDrive folder. Installers, exes, everything. No effect.
  • Tried the C:UsersUSERAppDataLocalMicrosoftOneDrivesettings trick, like deleting a few files and leaving two of them - the tutorial specified them. No effect.

Current situation:
- Currently the Troubleshooter says "Location "" not found".
- Currently I have the Onedrive folder in my Explorer, same old wrong location.

Now I have no Onedrive at all.
Like it does not show up in the tray anymore.

Notes:

  • Did a DISM/SFC repair a few days ago, all was 100% OK.
  • Back a few months ago I did a Skydrive /reset spell, and it worked perfectly.
