Can't set alternate sound device as default, resets to built in Creative Sound Blaster device

As the title says ever time I change default playback device it changes back to the inteal sound. No sign in the software of a way to change it and closing software doesn't stop it (surprisingly). I have disabled the creative sound device temporarily but this is not an ideal solution especially considering what I want to do with VAC later.

This is a new motherboard & computer.
