Every once in a while I run a certain program (MATLAB) and it takes up too much memory. At this stage the physical mem is at ~100% and the computer barely works. I then terminate MATLAB and I can see the memory is freed on the task manager (image). However, it takes about 5-10 minutes until I have full control over my computer back. In these 10 minutes the computer gradually becomes usable, open programs get 'unfreezed', etc. I guess that if MATLAB consumed all the memory then some other program...

I am building a new desktop computer. I will be using 128GB of RAM. I know that is a lot, I am not interested in explaining why I need it. My question is how I should plan this out. I have 8 ports for RAM, Should I buy 8 16GB RAM sticks or one 128 GB stick. Other variances of 128 GB are also an option. I have ASUS zenbook UX32VD (i5 version) and it only has 4GB of RAM preinstalled and while I originally thought that it has two RAM expansion slots it tued out it doesn't! I have written a simple authentication script in PHP, which, as per documentation, takes input from stdin and outputs OK or ERR to stdout. The problem is, Squid doesn't seem to launch the script at all. It depends. It completely depends on what you're programming. If you are programming apps or need to use programming tools that require higher resource usage then I'd go with #1 and even go up to 16 GB ram. BUT, in general, both are perfectly fine. You can even get a laptop with lower spec and it should be fine. Again, it depends. Oh, and GPU only matter if you are programming graphics related software. I have an Asus A555-LF laptop with 4GB integrated RAM(1333 MHz DDR3) (non removable) and an extra RAM expansion slot. I installed another 4GB RAM to the laptop (1333MHz DDR3), but my BIOS, Windows 10 and Ubuntu doesn't detect it.
