I'm playing around with my fresh Windows 2012 R2 VM and am following this guide to convert it to a 'workstation'. I have network discovery on and all the other advanced sharing settings necessary on my server-tued-workstation. I have a Win 8 VM that is hosting a shared folder and my win 10 machine that's hosting a shared folder. The majority of the time, I'm able to access the shared resources. The problem I've run into is that if I restart my Win2012 VM, my mapped coections break. I run into "The useame or password is incorrect" error. If I try to map the resources again, the same error pops up. I know that I'm using the correct credentials. The temporary fix for me is that I would have to ...

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 laptop with factory-installed Windows 8, upgraded to Windows 8.1, and later to Windows 10. Since I have purchased a new computer, I decided to perform a factory reset on the laptop (using the Remove files and clean the drive option) in order to repurpose it. It reset flawlessly on the first try in about 5-6 hours, and runs perfectly now, but with only one issue introduced after the reset that wasn't present before: the laptop now powers itself on from a shut-down state upon opening the lid, as opposed to opening the lid and then pressing the power button (this occurs on both battery and power). To add on to that, there was even an instance where the lid was already ...

In my Windows 10 computer, I have a VirtualBox Ubuntu 16.04 LTS VM in bridge adapter network setting. I have been able to use the hostname of the VM to SSH, Samba, and browse webpages inside the VM. Also, the Windows 10 computer has Cisco AnyCoect Secure Mobility Client installed, so that I can remotely access my company's LAN. Like, remote desktop into the office computer, accessing file server, etc. Recently, the IT department has told us to update the VPN client. After that, I have found the computer unable to resolve the hostname of the VM when the VPN is coected. When the VPN is discoected, the hostname can be resolved again. The updated version of the Cisco client is Version 4.2.03013....

I'm trying to create a Powershell script that watches a folder for new MP3 files and converts them to M4A format using FFMPEG and FDK AAC encoder. Since fdkaac.exe won't take MP3 files as input, I use this command, which pipes from ffmpeg: ffmpeg -i $path -f caf - | fdkaac -p5 -b64 - -o $outfolder$outname.m4a This works just fine if I enter it into a command prompt and the resulting M4A file that's generated has no problems. However if I run this from Powershell, the M4A file is created but contains nothing but unpleasant white noise (and very faint traces of music). An ideas why that is so? Here's the Powershell script if it helps: ### SET FOLDER TO WATCH + FILES TO WATCH + SUBFOLDERS YE...

I am using a INDEX, MATCH function in sheet Car Search to pull data from sheet Raw Data. One of the cells is Date Purchased, this will show the date in format dd/mm/yyyy (UK Format). The problem is, when I enter a date in this format, it doesn't correctly pull over to the Car Search sheet. Instead, it shows up 42350 when I entered 12/12/2015 in the Raw Data sheet. Both cells have been formatted to Date, but it is still showing up as 42350 and not 12/12/2015. Is it because the function is preventing it from showing date format? Anybody know why Excel does this? I have tried on a new sheet, but same result. Any help much appreciated :) Please see images below. Car Search Sheet Raw Data Sheet L...

As the subject line (plea for help) says, my brand new Corsair RM550x power supply will not boot when there are any peripherals coected to it. Not even just one! When it is coected only to the ATX and CPU on the motherboard, I get a blue power light and the fans all start spiing. This is for an HTPC, so I can't imagine 550W is not enough for three hard drives, a blu-ray player, and a sata controller. I am wondering, could this be a motherboard issue? Would the computer power up at all if the motherboard were damaged? The reason I ask is because I am replacing a PSU that died a few days ago. I heard a loud POP, and the whole unit shut down. I did the paper clip test on the PSU and yep, it was...
