High cpu usage by 'root' in Ubuntu VPS server

My server was working fine until last week. But I don't know how someone have changed by ssh root password. After that when I checked the CPU usage, it always 160-190% on executing 'top' command. Some users told that sites are going down many times due to this.. I'm wondering how CPU usage becomes more than '100%'. Usually, my CPU usage was always under 10%, may go up to 20% on high traffic. It will be used be 'www-data'. Below is the screenshot on ruing 'top' command in ssh putty. Root FS Read only: Remounting gives "cannot change data mode on remount" when not changing data mode

After messing with the settings in fstab, my root filesystem is being mounted read-only. I was able to solve this error in the past by ruing # remount -o remount,rw / However, I am getting the error "caot change data mode on remount". I understand that this means that the "data=" option does not match between the mounting and remounting. The problem is, no matter what option I give for the data mode, it gives this same error. According to mount, / is mounted as ro,relatime, data=ordered. However -o remount,rw,data=ordered gives the same error. According to /etc/fstab, / is supposed to be mounted as discard,errors=remount-ro,noatime,data=writeback. However -o rmount,rw,data=writeback gives the...

No more space in root filesystem, how could I increase the size?

The / filesystem may be a particular challenge, as that needs to be supported by the boot loader. This answer doesn't specify how to accomplish the requested task, but does provide a workaround. Another option: find a sub-directory (e.g., /big/) which has lots of data. Then copy that data onto your 60GB of space, mv the directory with lots of space (e.g., mv /big /bigback), and mount your 60GB (or a portion of it) onto /big. After confirming everything works as expected, rm /bigback to re-gain space on / Let's block ads! بخوانید...

I searched now a while but couldn't find an answer to this question. I have a Linux based server (centOs). In the root folder (/) i have a folder called root (/root). Configuring DNS to resolve root remotely and subdomain locally

Let's say I own the domain example.com, and have a website hosted on an exteal server at http://example.com, which is also accessible from http://www.example.com. I want to run my local OwnCloud instance at http://cloud.example.com, which should be accessible both locally and remotely. To make this accessible via LAN in my own network, I set up a local BIND server which resolves cloud.example.com to the local IP address of the server. However, since this is the only server, browsing to http://example.com resolves to the same machine and not to the remote website. How could I set up my BIND server to do the following? Accessing cloud.example.com from the LAN should resolve to a local IP Acces...

Rooted Galaxy S6, Custom binary blocked by FRP lock [details in desc]

Not too long ago, I rooted my device. Throughout the process I was met with an FRP lock, which I got around by removing all Google accounts on my device, and rooting like normal. I then booted into the device, and re-added my google accounts just fine. Now it seems that I haven't rebooted my device through the weeks that it's been since I rooted it, because after I re-added my Google account, and just rebooted my device, the FRP lock is back, and preventing my phone from starting. I understand that the most likely outcome of all this is a factory restore, or flashing stock firmware, but I have over 1k pictures on my device, and I'm at a loss here. If I could get those off, I'd be fine factor...

Trust root or leaf certificate in 802.1x setup?

I am setting up 802.1x via wired or wireless (WPA2 Enterprise) coections in our office, backed by a OneLogin RADIUS server. The certificate is not self-signed, so it's not clear to me whether it's safe to import it into the Trusted Root CA store, but that seems to be the only way to enable certificate checking. The certificate chain looks like this: *.us.onelogin.com RapidSSL SHA256 CA - G3 GeoTrust Global CA (already in the Windows Trusted Root CA store) If I only enable the GeoTrust Global CA in the Protected EAP settings window, I still get a waing in Windows 10, as if no certificate checking was enabled ("Continue coecting? How do I set the default soundcard for the root user?

I am ruing raspbian Jessie on my raspi 2. I have an exteal usb soundcard for my pi. I set it as the default card simply by going to Menu->preferences->Audio Device Settings. This works as expected. I am writing some code that takes in a file and plays it among other things. The problem is that it must be run with sudo, which then ignores my soundcard and uses the inteal card. Is there a way to apply the default soundcard setting to root? I have tried adding root to the audio group, but that didn't help. Thanks! Let's block ads! بخوانید...

How can I retrieve lost videos from my mobile phone without root it?

I am trying to retrieve some videos that I have lost from my mobile phone. I used Cntrl + X to cut them from my mobile phone to my computer and I stored them in a folder. Then, I cut another three videos from my mobile phone to my computer and by mistake I used Cntrl + Z, so I undid the changes. The videos were stored in the mobile phone memory, not in a SD card. I do not why, but the folder in which I stored all the previous videos dissapeared and now I caot get the videos back. I tried with a lot of programs but all of them needed that my mobile phone would be routed and I do not know if the problem it is about the mobile phone or the computer. Re-process emails from `/var/mail/root`

The mail forwarding was broken on one of my servers. Some emails accumulated in the local /var/mail/root mailbox instead of being forwarded. I fixed the forwarding now. Is there a way of reprocessing those emails so that they are re-sent? I am asking that because when the email is forwarded to another server, the other server applies some filtering and processing to put the emails to appropriate folders accessible through IMAP. Alteatively, would it be possible to convert the /var/mail/root mailbox file to a set of emails that could be copied directly to an IMAP folder (e.g. I could copy the file across to the other server manually). Suspected rootkit or keylogger installed while gone

I had to leave my computer alone for about 2 and a half hours last week and I suspect my close friend installed some type of rootkit or keylogger while I was gone as an April fools joke. I'm curious as to what I should do to verify that he actually hasn't done such a thing. I have run a malware and rootkit scan since I got back and nothing was detected. The only other thing I was going to try was tear apart my computer and see if any new hardware was added. My computer was moved from its original location when I got back and my exteal hard drive was unplugged on the drive (the USB cable was still plugged into the back of my computer). Any ideas? He told me that encrypting my hard drive isn't...
