I have a pair of earbuds with a microphone that I would like to record with instead of the terrible inbuilt one. Unfortunately, when I plug it in it still uses the inbuilt one. The icon next to the jack indicates that it is speaker and microphone, and the end of my audio jack does have four rings. The microphone works fine on my Android phone, so I know it isn't the earbuds' fault. I remember when I first plugged them, there was a dialogue menu that asked what I wanted to coect it as, and I selected sound and tried to select microphone, but it only let me use one so I selected sound and told it not to ask again. I just got a new laptop which is just 2 months old ruing Windows 10. Today when I checked the battery life the battery has wo down 9% which is like 4.5% per month, in this rate my battery would only last close to two years or less. What's the average wear rate of the laptop battery? I use the laptop plugged in most of the time how ever let it drain (not completely) and charge it back once in a week. So a 9% drop is like 50 charging cycles which it definitely didn't had. So this much of wearing is normal or too much? average wear rate of the laptop battery? Info: I'm using acer aspire 5733 (windows 8). I recently bought a new battery online that has a capacity of 112 Wh (which is double the original 48 Wh AS10D31 battery that the laptop came with). It came with the same voltage as the original one which is 10.8 V. Charger supplies 19 V 3.42 A 65W. Problem: I caot charge the new battery past 43% even after two days of charging. I tried to calibrate the battery by draining it all the way and uninstalling Microsoft ACPI compliant control but all attempts were to no avail. Any suggestions/advice. Thanks! So as the title says, I bricked my laptop. I'm not that good at explaining but let me try. I reformatted my laptop and installed the drivers given by the acer support, driver and manual site. and noticed my speakers aren't working. I opened my laptop to check if the speakers are still okay or the pins might have been discoected. I have Aspire E5-571G-55ST laptop and tools like CPU-Z and Speccy show that I have 2/4 slots used... Even Windows Task Manager shows that I'm only using 2/4 slots... But when I opened up the laptop to put in 2 RAM's in the 2 leftover slots, I found out that the motherboard has only 2 physical slots, or I'm not seeing good??? I have downloaded, for my Lenovo laptop, a power management utility by Lenovo with an option to 'extend battery life.' Essentially, the software works by maxing out the battery's charge at 60%. Moreover, it limits recharging the battery until the charge drops to 55% or so (meaning one could conceivably use the laptop plugged in for weeks without it constantly being charged - until the charge on the battery naturally drops to 55%, that is). Any ideas as to whether this might prove to be effective with respect to promoting battery life, recharge cycles? I am trying to dual boot windows and linux by putting my second ssd in this optical drive caddy. However, the caddy is not recognized by the BIOS. As far as I can tell from this site, I am ruing the latest version for my model (v1.21). When I tu on the computer, the blue light on the caddy lights up so I am assuming there is at least getting stata power if not data. Did I get a bricked caddy? I have a Windows 10 laptop (Asus UX305L) that will drain its entire battery even when in sleep mode. I've checked my power settings and they seem normal. I don't have any wake timers set and when I run powercfg -lastwake to see what process ran, it doesn't retu anything. I ran a battery report and I can see my laptop woke at 9:51:12 AM and stayed active ~7 hours before hibeating because the battery was at 5%. Is there anyway I can see what exactly ran at this time? I would like the fans to automatically adjust speed based on appropriate inteal temperatures. I have a dual-boot with Windows 10 and it works as expected under Windows. However, when I log in to Ubuntu, the fans are quiet for about 30 seconds and then spin up to what I'm guessing is about 70-80%. I took the following steps: sensors-detect service kmod start sensors pwmconfig The output of each of these commands can be found in this pastebin. I don't know much about hardware/drivers/modules, so I'm a little out of my element. pwmconfig obviously isn't finding the fan(s), but I don't know why or what driver/module to look for to get it to work. I have a Lenovo Y50-70 and I want to buy an exteal battery pack to charge it when I'm outside to extend the battery life, I want something like a full day charge (8 to 10 hours on would be fine, I will not have the PC on all the day, sometimes I will tu it off). The charger of the laptop claims an output of 20v/6.75A (135W), but most of the battery packs I found are of 20v and 4.5 (3A, 4A too (so 90W as max) [in Amazon.com]. I am ruing Linux Mint on an Acer Aspire E 5 574G. The problem I am facing is, I have to press and hold the power button for a bit to trigger the lock screen or suspend or whatever option I have set in the power management section. But if I hold it for even half a second longer, the machine powers down. Is there a way to make it respond to a tap of the power button and not a hold down? When I tried to test detecting the power button tap with xev, it couldn't. Holding it did detect the stroke though. My laptop has a bad battery (lasts 20 - 30 minutes of normal use) but I need to see the max power consumption.I tried ruing Prime95 + Furmark on battery with power saving off (which took 50 watts just before it shut down) and it said battery low (below 10%) in a few seconds and the second time I tried it on battery it shut down (not overheating).The laptop can run Prime95 and Furmark on AC power perfectly but I want to see how much it takes.
