Just noticed something as I was playing around with the Startup folder of the Default user in both Windows 8.1 and Windows 10: For some reason, on all of my installs of Windows 10, the Default user's startup folder does not exist where it should be, C:UsersDefaultAppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuProgramsStartup, whereas in Windows 8.1 it exists. I've seen on the web that it apparently was replaced with C:ProgramDataMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuProgramsStartUp starting in Win7, but I have this path in Win8.1 but not Win10. Win10 goes up to the Programs folder, then Startup doesn't exist. If I manually create the Startup folder in C:UsersDefaultAppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuProgr...

I have a VM with Remote Desktop access enabled. It runs a regular Windows 8.1 Pro setup. I want to be able to login on my laptop without having to create and login to a local account before I can do that. The laptop has Windows 8.1 Pro installed. Basically when I tu on my laptop I want to enable a screen with IP/Computer, Useame and Password. I would then use the VM RDP settings to login. Is that possible? I created the follwing service file in ~/.config/systemd/user to backup my work data when I'm logged in at work. In my leaing track for Amazon EC2, I thought it would be a great idea to just always become the root user while still logging in. I added this line to my .bashrc /usr/bin/sudo /bin/bash That way, I would not have to SSH in as the root user, but I would be automatically switched when I log in. However, when this was in the .bashrc, it broke any SFTP client that tried to coect. The errors varied depending on the client used, but usually they all ended up with a timeout, even though they successfully coected to the remote host. WinSCP suggested that an SFTP server might not be ruing on the host. I am now fully aware that adding that line was a bad move, but I don't know why this breaks SFTP....

In Windows 7 (64-bit Ultimate in my case), is there any way to gain only the rights of an administrator account, rather than effectively "ruing" the application as <insert administrator name here>? I am having a dilemma with MPC-HC (Media Player Classic - Home Cinema), where it requires administrator privileges to associate files with it. This is where DHCP Servers come in. It will send a discovery request on the network using the ip 255.255.255.255 and the source ip being 0.0.0.0 since it doesn't know its own ip yet. However this is where MAC Addresses come into play as well as the Discover packet is encapsulated into a Data Link Layer Etheet frame to the target MAC Address of FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF and the source being whatever the network interface MAC address is. I use two audio devices: Default (audio) device "Realtec Digital Output (Optical)" Default communication device "Lautsprecher (Speaker)" My goal: I want to have the default audio volume on my default communication device, instead of the default device - at all times. What I tried so far: Changing the volume mixer to my communication device explicitly works temporary, but as soon as I close the settings window, the default audio volume is reset again to the default audio device. Last night I updated to Windows 10 aiversary update and I am experiencing the following issue. I run SQL Management Studio 2016 as a different user so that I can coect to other database server however after the update I caot. I get a error popup saying This taks requires the application to have elevated permissions. Restart with different credentials or Cancel the task. Neither of these options allow SQLMS to open as the correct user. I have a work around in that I can use SQLMS 2014 which allows run as to work correctly. I believe the issue is my other user account not having permission to some file somewhere (related to Visual Studio 2015). Any idea how to find the file and change its perm...
